From the  Principal….

Kia ora e whānau,

There are so many things to feel grateful and appreciative of as we prepare for Advent. This week marks the end of the Church’s liturgical year before we begin Advent—a season of waiting and preparing for the birth of Jesus, while also looking forward to his second coming.

We had a very successful ERO report last week and their preliminary feedback has been:

  • Welcoming and Inclusive: The school prides itself on its openness and warm welcoming environment, fostering a strong sense of community where everyone feels valued and included.
  • Strong Community and Small School: Its small size is a significant asset, creating a close-knit family feel where pupils and staff know each other well, promoting strong connections and a supportive atmosphere.
  • Dedicated and Valued Staff: The staff is held in high regard and work collaboratively to provide an excellent educational and social experience for the children.
  • Trusted Leadership: There is great trust and confidence in the School's leadership and Principal, contributing to a secure and well-managed school environment.
  • Meaningful Connections: The school benefits from strong connections to the local community including the Kātote Kahui Ako and the Parish, enriching the overall school experience and providing a supportive network.
  • Religious Education and te Tiriti O Waitangi:  The school prioritises daily Religious Education learning and Mātauranga Māori.

I wish to thank our students, staff and school Board for their support and contributions to this comprehensive review. We will receive our draft report in early 2026. The final report will be shared with our school community and will be available to read on our website.

Our school is busy preparing for the end of the school year:

  • The Senior Whare (Year 7 & 8) are hard at work rehearsing and preparing for their End of Year Production, Year 8 Events and Year 7 are preparing their Kaitiaki applications after their successful Leadership Day.
  • The Middle Whare (Year 4-6) have been visiting our Community Garden, visiting Annaliese Rest home (Young Vinnies) and the Year 6's are preparing their Kaitiaki applications after their successful Leadership Day.
  • The Junior Whare are continuing to amaze us with their continued focus and determination. The pre-Christmas excitement has begun. They won't be having a Christmas Nativity play this year as we are already starting to prepare and practice for our Centenary Production: ‘Spanning the Decades’.

Parish & Special Character News…..

This Sunday ….marks the start of Advent!

The word comes from the Latin "adventus," meaning "coming," which signifies both the celebration of Jesus's birth and the anticipation of his second coming. Celebrations often involve reflection, prayer, and daily activities, such as using an advent calendar or lighting the candles on an advent wreath

School Portal - from the Government

A new Parent Portal is now available. This is an online resource designed to support families to play their part in their child’s learning.

Education is a partnership of what happens in the classroom and what happens at home. Parents, caregivers, and whānau play an important role in supporting their child’s learning and development. The new webspace is designed to make it easier for parents, caregivers, and whānau to access clear and up-to-date information on the school curriculum, assessment practices, and ways they can complement their child’s learning.

From time to time you know receive a message from the PTA asking for your assistance on running this pastoral support program, we would really appreciate your support around this. Please reach out to Trish, your child’s teacher or Lizzie to let us  know if you or any families you know are in need of any assistance. We are here to help you and our wonderful school community!

1. This consists of the $150 to one family to assist in paying for an extracurricular activity for a child or children in that family.

2. We also have the donation of 1 term of swimming lessons to one child. The swimming lessons will be available at both the Kaiapoi and Rangiora.

If you would like to apply for either of the above, please see Trish McKendry and ask for an application.
