From the Principal….

Kia ora e whānau,

An enormous thank you for …. your support and interest in our recent 3-Way Learning Conferences this week. We had 88% of our school community book Learning Conferences this term, which shows the deep interest and support our community place on their children's learning progress. An enormous thank you and appreciation to our staff who put a great deal of effort into preparing these successful conferences and their hard work this term, ensuring your children have the best environment and programmes, for successful learning outcomes.

Congratulations to the top fundraising student for our highly acclaimed Colour Run was Leah D, raising an incredible $1042.50! Followed by Louie E, Leo G and Noah W. These 4 students will be Principals for a Day on Friday 11th April and will be running the school for the day, supported by Mrs McKendry. I wonder what they will decide to do…..???? !!!

The following talented swimmers have qualified for the Canterbury Swimming Sports:  Evie Hancox, Gus Cameron & Jed Cameron. Thank you for representing our school in these swimming championships and we wish you all the best for these Championship races.

On Thursday 10th  April - the Year 4 - 8 students from St Patrick’s, St Joseph’s, St Mary’s (Blenheim) and Rangiora New Life School will be joining together for a Hikoi Tapu (Sacred Journey or Pilgrimage). So as we prepare for Easter, we walk in the steps of Jesus, as we take turns to carry a cross as Jesus did on his journey to Calvary. We have plenty of breaks / rests along the way!

We will leave St Patrick's School at 9am by bus and gather with the other schools at 9.30am at Matawai Park. We will then be walking down the Passchendaele Memorial Path to Kaiapoi - Approximately 11km in total. We will be meeting up with our Year 0-3 friends from St Patrick’s @ Murphy Park.

We will be stopping along the way to recall the footsteps of Christ. It will culminate in a final time of prayer and reflection at St Patrick’s Church in Kaiapoi, at 2pm. Parents and whānau are also welcome to join us for the service.

Students will be required to wear their sports uniform, a named sunhat, polar fleece or jacket, and bring a hearty morning tea, lunch and water bottle with them.  Parent help will be greatly appreciated to ensure the day is a success.

We require parent helpers for this school excursion. Parents with pre-school children are welcome to attend but will not be included as official parent helpers. Please indicate your availability in  an email to your child’s teacher.

Can you please send your permission via email to each of your children's teachers and indicate if you can be a parent helper, by Friday 4th April.

We have been invited along with Marian College, St Joseph's Papanui, St Patrick's Bryndwr to join an initiative that brings cultural exchange opportunities while also generating funds for important school projects. We have been invited to host 12 Year 7 & 8 students from the Shandong province in China, for one week: 3-10th August, 2025.

We are currently looking for host families who can provide a one-week homestay for Chinese students. Host families will receive $350 (per student)  for accommodating a student. If you're interested or would like more information, please reach out to me at principal@stpatkai.school.nz —we’d love to have you involved in this exciting programme!

Each year we join with our other Kaiapoi Schools for the Kaiapoi Anzac Day Parade & Service. Families are welcome to join us for this. Our Kaitiaki (Student Council) will be in the parade with me, proudly wearing the school uniform and if they have them, their family service medals. You are welcome to join us for the Parade and service. We will meet @ 9.45am outside the Kaiapoi Tennis Club in Smith Street on Friday 25th April.

Pastoral Care

To support our St Patrick’s school community the PTA run a pastoral care program. Within this program we need volunteers to help support our families in need. This simplify involves making a meal for a family to ease any extra pressure or strain. It is such a rewarding program that helps our families who need this the most. This can include families who are going through anything in which they are struggling with, health struggles, family struggles or personal problems. From time to time you know receive a message from the PTA asking for your assistance on running this pastoral support program, we would really appreciate your support around this. Please reach out to Trish, your child’s teacher or Lizzie to let us  know if you or any families you know are in need of any assistance. We are here to help you and our wonderful school community!
