The Jesse Tree

The tradition comes from Isaiah 11:1
“A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a
branch shall grow out of his roots.”
Jesse was the father of David, Israel’s greatest king. Jesus is descended from the line of David. He is the branch God promised would grow from Jesse’s family tree.
During Advent, we trace these descendants through the readings of the Old Testament as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The symbols we put on the Jesse Tree on the 1st Sunday of Advent are:

Adam and Eve
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:16
Noah’s Ark
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come.” Genesis 9:12
Abraham
“Look up at the sky and count the stars....so shall your offspring be.”
Genesis 15:4

Advent Talks by Cameron Surrey:in the Chervier Centre, Rangiora:
Join us this Advent as we reflect on the power of God’s Word to transform our lives from within and the unique Gift of the Spirit that each one us has received to build up the Body of Christ.

Kaiapoi Christmas Carnival

Unfortunately we had to make the decision to not participate in the Santa Parade for 2024. We would like to thank those families who did put in the permission slips and offer of help. We hope to have more support in this event next year.  We would like to thank Nana Pam once again for her amazing sewing skills in refreshing those amazing costumes!

Family Donation

Just a reminder that we offer the 2 types of Family donation each term.

1. This consists of the $150 to one family to assist in paying for an extracurricular activity for a child or children in that family.

2. We also have the donation of 1 term of swimming lessons to one child. We feel that it is so important for our children to have confidence in the water and participate in after school activities. We also understand that these things can come with a large cost so we

are hoping this can help many families. The swimming lessons will be available at both the Kaiapoi and Rangiora pools and this is valid for whole year, it does not need to be used straight away.

If you would like to apply for either of the above, please see Trish McKendry and ask for an application. This is handled very discreetly with only Trish knowing the recipients so please don’t be afraid to apply. You have until the end of each term to apply. It takes a village, and we are very happy that we can offer this to our school community.

Parents are always welcome to join us for our fortnightly School Assemblies and our weekly School Masses.

Creative Writing written by Divine Venzon (a fictional Story from the perspective of Lorien)

On Thursdays, I had the house to myself. Dad went out with the boys while Mum did whatever she did. I was relieved. I sat on the couch, my legs tucked to my body as I stared out the window, the glass covered in small dots of rain.

In a world where everything had changed, my family hadn’t. Still cold. Empty. Meaningless. It was exhausting. After being in the calm silence for too long, I stood up from the couch with a small sigh.

“Tap, tap, tap.”

The stairs creaked as I walked up the stairs, before entering the room, my light flickering. I stared around, my brows furrowing in confusion. I took a small step forward, my desk filled with… paper? Newspaper to be exact. I skimmed through the paper, concern visible on my face as I reached the last page, a picture of a lost staff on the page.

How’d this get here? Why was it here?

I let out a shaky breath, blinking slowly. A small piece of paper dropped from the newspaper.

“Out where the Wisdom encourages you, is where you will find your first clue.” I read out quietly.

Thank you so much to our Year 0-3 students & their teachers for their 3 amazing Performances of ‘This Way To Bethlehem,' this week!
