From the Principal….

Kia ora e whānau,

I trust that all you had an enjoyable and restorative long weekend, last weekend! I think the break was timely, as we manage the winter viruses and flu that are in our community at present. The Ministry of Education has sent out a reminder to all schools this week, to be vigilant in the face of an increased risk of measles around the country. They have reminded us that the best protection against measles is two doses of the MMR vaccine. If you haven't already done so could you please email or bring in your child's immunisation record so that we can keep our immunisation database up to date.

Next Thursday 13th June our Year 5 - 7 students have been invited to participate in our Two Raw Sisters and a Giraffe programme.  They have teamed up with the well-known cooks, authors and presenters the Two Raw Sisters, to develop healthy eating workshops to complement the Healthy Harold programme and the health curriculum. Rosa and Margo provide engaging workshops for tamariki with fresh produce being the hero of their recipes. They bring a young and fun approach to cooking, reinforce healthy eating, sustainability and creativity with food, and are inclusive catering to all eaters. This programme will be presented here at school.

Thank you so much for your support and positive feedback regarding the class changes that need to be made to accommodate our eighth class, next term. All parents and caregivers of children who are moving class, have been contacted via email individually or HERO this week. Please do not hesitate to email or make an appointment to see me if you have any questions or require any further information about the new classes starting in term 3.

The new class configuration from term 3, 2024 is:

Rimu : New Entrants - Mrs Cath Shaw

Rata: Year 1 - Mrs Jacque Culliung

Matai: Year 2 - Miss Kaila Abdelaal

Kauri:  Year 4/5 - Whaea Becky Holland

Our staff are currently assessing your children in Mathematics, Reading and Writing using the online Progress and Consistency Tool (PaCT). They are also busy writing HERO reports for Religious Education, Literacy, Mathematics and a General Comment. They are using the information gleaned from the PaCT tool to complete progress graphs for Mathematics, Reading and Writing.

The Mid - Year HERO reports and progress graphs will be published on Monday 1st July, by 3pm.

Thank you to those families who have recently returned reading books and journals or Library books, belonging to our school. It would be great to receive some more, as a number of our reading books are still missing! Thank you so much for looking for any books / journals at home and returning them to school, as soon as possible.
