From the Principal….

Kia ora e whānau,

We have appreciated your ongoing support and collaboration as we continue to navigate a busy and eventful term. Everyone here is looking forward to a break over Easter and a chance to recharge before the last 10 days of term 1. It has been amazing to celebrate so many learning milestones this term with your children as they continue to make progress in all curriculum areas especially in Mathematics and Literacy. I thank our teachers and students for the extra work they have put into our 3-Way Learning Conferences this week. Our students are very proud to share their learning progress and achievements with you.

We are sad to farewell Whaea Emma at the end of this term. She has been instrumental as as a class teacher and our SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator), in the Learning Support area of our school. We will miss her sense of fun and humour, and the way she connects and builds positive relationships with our students and their whānau. We are planning a special Farewell for Whaea Emma with her Kauri class in the last week of the term. The Kauri teacher and Team Leader from the start of Term 2, is Mrs Erin Kreft, a talented and experienced teacher from St Joseph's School, Papanui. She will be coming to visit Kauri and Whaea Emma one day in the last week of the term, so she can meet her new class and find out how wonderful they are!

We also farewell Mrs Louise Ellis as one of our Star Teacher Aides at the end of this term. Mrs Ellis is retiring from this role after twenty years at St Patrick's. She has made an incredible difference @ St Patrick's and given so much help and support to many of our children, whether she is working with them in their classroom or in our beautiful Library. Luckily Mrs Ellis has agreed to stay on as our Librarian and to assist Miss Youngman with our Uniform shop. We will be farewelling and thanking Mrs Ellis for her outstanding work over the last twenty years at a Special Assembly, on Thursday 11th April @ 11am. Families and friends are most welcome to join us for this Special Assembly for Mrs Ellis.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Rebecca Morgan and our hard working PTA, who have worked tirelessly over the last year with a Twilight Fete, Christmas Raffle, Easter Raffle and Colour Run to raise over $30,000 for our new Scooter & Bike Track. Our children were very excited to hear from Rebecca that our new Scooter & Bike Track is going ahead very soon! Thank you so much to all of our families who have helped with this fundraising events, sold raffle tickets and obtained sponsors for the Colour Run! Ruby and Indie raised the most money for the Colour Run so will be co-sharing the Principal for a Day award on the last day of the term - Friday 12th April.

Over the next 3 weeks our school are participating in the following emergency practices (drills) as per our School Policy to practise these emergency procedures once a term. This week we practiced our fire drill, next week our earthquake drill and the last week of term is our Lockdown drill. Our teachers talk through these procedures with their class prior to the practice.

Our School Board have recently approved our St Patrick's Strategic Plan for 2024 / 2025, after consultation with our School Community in 2023 and work with a Strategic Planner for some months. I have attached a copy of our  2024 / 2025 Strategic Plan for you to read. There is also a copy on our school website and in our school office. Please feel free to email me principal@stpatkai.school.nz if you have any wonderings, questions or feedback about this new Strategic Plan.

I have included at the end of this newsletter a schedule  for the Easter Masses and events at our St Patrick's Church, over the Holy Week. Your children have been learning about the significance and importance of Easter in the Church's Liturgical year in their Religious Education programme. Please note that Easter Tuesday (2nd April) is a School Holiday throughout New Zealand.

Please don't hesitate to email your child's teacher, Janine in our school office (office@stpatkai.school.nz) or me (principal@stpatkai.school.nz) if you have any questions, wonderings or information regarding your children.

Ma te Atua koe e manaaki me to whanau,

God's blessings on you and your family.

Wishing you all a very happy, holy & blessed Easter.

Kind regards

Trish McKendry
