From the Principal….

Kia ora koutou katoa,

Our students have made a smooth and positive start to their school year. Thank you so much to our parents, caregivers and school staff who have supported this return to school. We welcomed 25 children and their families, and three staff members, formally to our school last Friday, with a Mihi Whakatau. This was followed by our first School Mass for 2024 and a special thank you to all of the parents and families who were able to join us for this Mass. It is wonderful to have our children participating and contributing to the Mass - they are readers, altar servers, computer technicians and musicians. We are so lucky to have such enthusiastic and talented children in our school community!

Next Wednesday 14th February as well as being St Valentine's Day, it is Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday signifies the start of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Season,  in our Catholic church. Please click here to find out more about why Lent is so important to Catholics and what we teach here at St Patrick's about Lent and Easter. Our school will attend Mass at our Church on Ash Wednesday (14th February)  @ midday. All of our children and staff will receive ‘the ashes’ on their forehead in the shape of a cross. Ash Wednesday – also known as the Day of Ashes – is a day of repentance, when Catholics and Christians confess their sins and profess their devotion to God leading up to Easter. The ashes come from the burnt palm branches from Palm Sunday. Parents and families are welcome to join us for Ash Wednesday Mass. It is acceptable for someone who is not Catholic to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday, if they so choose.

We have many exciting and enjoyable events and learning opportunities in the term ahead. Please see the list of Term One dates below and on our website. Please also see the information from Mr Elliott (Our Sports Leader) regarding entering your Year 4-8 child into our Swimming Sports. One form needs to be completed for each child you have in this area of the school!

Please don't hesitate to email your child's teacher, Janine in our school office (office@stpatkai.school.nz) or me (principal@stpatkai.school.nz) if you have any questions, wonderings or information regarding your children.

Here's to a great term ahead…

Ma te Atua koe e manaaki me to whanau,

God's blessings on you and your family.

Kind regards

Trish McKendry

Family Donation

Just a reminder that we offer the 2 types of Family donation each term.

  1. This consists of the $150 to one family to assist in paying for an extracurricular activity for a child or children in that family.
  2. We also have the donation of 1 term of swimming lessons to one child. We feel that it is so important for our children to have confidence in the water and participate in after school activities. We also understand that these things can come with a large cost so we are hoping this can help many families. The swimming lessons will be available at both The Kaiapoi and Rangiora pools and this is valid for whole year, it does not need to be used straight away.

If you would like to apply for either of the above, please see Trish McKendry and ask for an application. This is handled very discreetly with only Trish knowing the recipients so please don’t be afraid to apply. You have until the end of each term to apply. It takes a village, and we are very happy that we can offer this to our school community.

Upcoming events

  • PTA meeting 21st February 6.30pm
  • Easter Raffle Non Uniform day 8th March

On Thursday February the 22rd, St Patrick’s Kaiapoi will be holding our whole school Swimming Sports at Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre between 10.45 am - 2:15 pm

This year, students Year 4-8 will be entering into their races via a Google Form (attached below) this can be completed at home, parents please work closely with your child when filling in this form. It would be fantastic if every student knew what they had entered on the day! The google form is to be submitted by Friday 16th February, at 9am.

We do advise that parents should understand and know the events their child is entering. They can enter a maximum of 4 races and a minimum of 2. Parents are most welcome to come and watch. We would also appreciate volunteers to help on the day.

Only Year 5 - 8 will be considered for the North Canterbury Zones that enter a Championship race and meet the qualifying time, swimming 50m lengths.

Approximate Schedule of Events:
