From the Principal….

Kia ora koutou katoa,

What an incredible Twilight Fete we had last Saturday!  So many people helped to make this an amazing day! Our PTA, children, staff and our families all worked together tirelessly to ensure that our Fete was a huge success! Thank you so much everyone - it was so enjoyable and we raised a significant amount of $$ for our new scooter and bike track! A special thank you and appreciation to our PTA and Rebecca Morgan who worked tirelessly to organise an outstanding, enjoyable and memorable community event!!

We seem to be zooming through this term so quickly and our children and staff continue to amaze us with the way they respond quickly to help those in need, remain focused and keen to learn, and support their friends! Our Junior Classrooms are very full at the moment due to an increase in enrolments, please know that we have put extra teachers and teacher aides in each junior classroom during Mathematics, Reading and Writing times, to ensure that every child is getting quality teaching and learning opportunities, in our core learning areas.  We are currently organising our staffing and classes for 2024, which I will publish in our School Newsletter on Thursday 30th November. We will endeavour to try to keep our class sizes as small as we possibly can in 2024 and we have been allocated extra staffing next year, to enable us to do that.

Last year's Prizegiving went for over two hours which was challenging for many of our younger children. As a staff we have decided this year to keep the length of our annual Prizegiving to around 90 minutes, which is long enough for everyone! To enable us to do this and have our end of year celebrations, awards and acknowledgment of our Year 8 Leavers, we have decided to give out the class individual certificates at a Special Assembly the next day, at school. On Wednesday 13th December (Our School Prizegiving) we will be awarding two Academic Excellence Awards and two School Values Awards, for each year level. The remainder of the class certificates will be given out the next day. If you have any questions or comments about this decision to shorten our Prizegiving, please email me on principal@stpatkai.school.nz

Pegasus Zone Athletic Sports 1st November written by Mr Tom Elliott:

Well, what a day it was! 16 students were able to represent St. Patrick’s across a range of events and we had a great deal of success. The day was perfect for viewing with the sun out and very little wind. Four competitors did especially well, placing 1st or 2nd in their event:

Congratulations to all of our athletes who qualified for the Zone Sports and special congratulations to:

  • Zavia Williams-Mills - 1st in year 6 1000m (broke the record time)
  • Gabriel van Dam - 2nd in year 6 1000m
  • Ana White - 1st in Shotput, 2nd in Discus
  • Lydia McKenzie - 1st in Shotput

The day was a great success due to great planning from Miss Conlan, making the running smooth for the competitors. The students represented St. Patrick’s incredibly well, by helping staff and parents with running events and being supportive of others. I received multiple comments from people in the community who noticed Saint Patrick’s students being great during the day. A fantastic day was had by all and good luck to all the students representing St. Patrick’s at the Canterbury zones on the 29th of November. Thank you to Jim McGregor and Sam Stakenburg for all of your help and support with our team.

Please see the full list of Athletic Sports results at the end of this Newsletter.

We are looking forward to our Year 1-3 Athletic Sports tomorrow Friday 3rd November, 1.30-3pm. Good luck to all of our Athletes!

Please note: there is a Staff Only Professional Learning Day coming up on Thursday 16th November - attached to Show Weekend. Our school will be closed while our Staff learn about the new Curriculum Refresh and start to write our end of year progress reports.

Our Coffee Van is available tomorrow from 8.30am, for our CCC Cafe… see you there!

Ma te Atua koe e manaaki me to whanau,

God's blessings on you and your family.

Kind regards

Trish McKendry

Family Donation

Just a reminder that we offer the 2 types of Family donation each term.

  1. This consists of the $150 to one family to assist in paying for an extracurricular activity for a child or children in that family.
  2. We also have the donation of 1 term of swimming lessons to one child. We feel that it is so important for our children to have confidence in the water and participate in after school activities. We also understand that these things can come with a large cost so we are hoping this can help many families. The swimming lessons will be available at both The Kaiapoi and Rangiora pools and this is valid for whole year, it does not need to be used straight away.

If you would like to apply for either of the above, please see Trish McKendry and ask for an application. This is handled very discreetly with only Trish knowing the recipients so please don’t be afraid to apply. You have until the end of each term to apply. It takes a village, and we are very happy that we can offer this to our school community.

Upcoming events

  • Non Uniform Day for Christmas Raffle - 10th November
  • Raffle selling 19/25 November
  • PTA Meeting 22nd November
