Today Mr O'Dowd and I attended the National Youth Leaders Day, at the Christchurch Town Hall with our Kaitiaki - Student Council and our Kātote group of schools. These Leadership days are an annual event and this is the first time that we have taken our student leaders. The theme for 2023 is 'Leading the Self.' Self-leadership is really important as part of our leadership journey. If you want others to trust and believe in you as a leader, you must trust and believe in yourself. Today our Youth Leaders were treated to a number of inspirational, challenging and courageous leaders including Brad Smeele an ex- Wake Board Champion, from Auckland, who after a tragic accident on his wake board became a quadraplegic. He has had some very tough and challenging times recovering and spoke about how he nearly gave up. He shared some amazing quotes that kept him going and helped him to move forward to be the best possible version of himself, despite his injury and disability. He spoke clearly about the need to understand control - only you can control your ATTITUDE, your EFFORT and your ACTIONS. He believes a winner is a loser who keeps on trying! All of the speakers (Julia Grace, Tammy Wells and Georgia Lines) had incredible stories to share with us and we will look forward to reading our Kaitiaki's reflections, on what this special leadership day meant to them.
We welcome our new Office Manager Miss Janine Youngman, to our team on Tuesday 6th June. She comes to us from One School Global in Rangiora. We know that you will give her a warm, St Patrick's welcome! Wendy McDonald is going to be helping me with her induction to our school and her training in our Office systems.
Please note that there will be no Yoga in the Hall @ 8.30am tomorrow as I have a meeting at St Joseph's Rangiora at that time.
A friendly reminder that tomorrow is Wheels Day at St Patrick's School. Every Friday our tamariki are welcome to bring their scooter, skateboard or bike and helmets are compulsory. Everyone wears their St Patrick's School Sports uniform on a Friday and I wish our Year 5-8 students all the very best for their Winter Sports Competition again tomorrow!
I hope all of our families have a relaxing and enjoyable ‘Kings Birthday’ weekend and if you are heading away, safe travels!

Parish & Special Character News…..
New update from Mary's family: Thank You everyone for your prayers! On this great Feast day of Our Lady's visitation we are seeing progress! They’ve removed her oxygen tube that was down her throat and causing a lot of discomfort and they have brought her out of her drug induced coma. She can open both her eyes now. Although she is very disoriented she is beginning to respond to simple commands! My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord! ....God who is mighty has done great things for me, Holy is His name!!!
Please pray for….

Family Donation
Just a reminder that we offer the 2 types of Family donation each term.
This consists of the $150 to one family to assist in paying for an extracurricular activity for a child or children in that family.
We also have the donation of 1 term of swimming lessons to one child. We feel that it is so important for our children to have confidence in the water and participate in after school activities. We also understand that these things can come with a large cost so we are hoping this can help many families. The swimming lessons will be available at both The Kaiapoi and Rangiora pools and this is valid for whole year, it does not need to be used straight away.
If you would like to apply for either of the above, please see Trish McKendry and ask for an application. This is handled very discreetly with only Trish knowing the recipients so please don’t be afraid to apply. You have until the end of each term to apply. It takes a village, and we are very happy that we can offer this to our school community.

Looking to learn an instrument?
NZ Modern School of Music works with our school's students (and parents, too!) to offer music lessons in a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, ukulele, recorder, drums, voice, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and many more!
The Year 4-8s are very excited to have started Production rehearsals and auditions. A big thank you to whānau who have supported their dreams at home. But we don’t want the adults to feel left out! We are keen to hear from any of you who have talents that could help us with set building, props and set painting, costume and design. Our students are leading all the design elements, so the ability to interpret the vision of 8-13 year olds is a must You wouldn’t need to be available during the day, we know how busy everyone is...but if you can cope with having designs sent home, we’d appreciate it enormously!
In the meantime, please save the date: JULY 26th
