From the Principal…. Kia ora koutou katoa, A special welcome to St Patrick's and happy school days to Noah White, Mae Paterson and Alex Morgan who have begun their school journey in Rimu. (Please see the photo gallery at the end of this newsletter) We have an action packed and eventful end of term coming up which we are currently preparing for! Our Year 5-8 School Speech Finals were held last week. The Judges (Mr Kaprokos, Mrs McKendry, Mr O'Dowd and Miss Begg) were so impressed with the high calibre of speeches delivered this year. Congratulations to all of our finalists who delivered excellent speeches about a wide range of interesting topics. The winners were: Year 5: Francesca Sommerfield ‘Hearing Aids’ Year 6: Gemma Whalley ‘Climate Change’ Year 7: Harrison Hickland ‘Siblings’ Year 8: Liefke Stakenburg ‘Haiku’ These students will go on to represent our school at the inaugural Te Manu Korero O Te Kahui Katote Speech Presentations, at Kaiapoi Workingmen's Club on Wednesday 28th September, from 6pm. They will be emailed information about this event separately. (Please see the photo gallery at the end of this newsletter) On Monday 19th September 3.15-6.30pm and Thursday 22nd September 3.15-6.30pm, we have 3-way Learning Conferences (for students, teachers and parents) planned. The focus of these Conferences is to share some recent learning information, review the learning goals set in term one and set some new learning goals for term 4. It is a great opportunity to celebrate recent milestones and achievements, and discuss their learning progress in core curriculum areas and their social skill development. The bookings for the 3-Way Conferences are still open, you can click on this link to make a booking with your child's teacher: https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/vzs4q Next week, we have a fortnight of daily swimming lessons starting. Your child will need to bring their named swimming togs, named towel and named goggles (if they have them) in a named waterproof bag, every day to school. This is a good time to check that all items of their school uniform are named clearly to ensure smooth changing at the pool! Please email or see your child's teacher, if your child is unable to participate in swimming lessons. Here is the daily timetable for swimming lessons - parents / caregivers are more than welcome to come and view the lessons at Kaiapoi Aquatics @9 Cass St, Kaiapoi: 11.15-11.40am Matai 11.45-12.10 Rimu 12.15-12.40 Rata 12.45-1.00 Instructor break 1.00-1.25 Kauri/Pohutukawa 1.30-1.55 Totara Our classes will be walking to and from the pool, each day. Great for our fitness! Next week, we also have the Scholastic Bookfair and Book Week at St Patrick's School, organised by Mrs Ellis. We are looking forward to students sharing their favourite books. They can bring along a special book and we will share them in class. The Book Fair will be open in the mornings before school starts and in the afternoons, during 3-Way Learning Conferences. Classes will visit the display of books and students will share their wishlists with you. Every book sold at the Book Fair contributes to new books for our wonderful library. On Friday, we are having a Book Character Dress Up Day. There will be a Book Character Dress Up Parade at 9am on Friday morning, which parents and whanau are welcome to attend. Next Monday and Tuesday we have the Cycle Sense Instructors coming to work with our Year 6 students. If your child is in Year 6 and they have a bike and helmet at home, they will need them at school next Monday 19th September and Tuesday 20th September. Bike and helmets can be provided by the Cycle Sense Team. PTA News & Update …. PTA News Kia Ora St Patrick’s Community. Please read below to keep up to date with what we are doing. Face Book Page Do you follow us on Face Book? This is the best way to make sure you have the most up to date information for all that we are doing. You can find us by searching St Patrick’s Kaiapoi PTA. Calendar Art By now your child should have come home with a calendar art form with options of purchasing a calendar, diary, cards, mousepad or sketch pad using their art that they have created. These forms and payment need to be returned to the PTA red box in the office by Friday 23rd September please. Payments can be made to PTA account ASB 12-3616-0025744-00 use calendar and your name as reference. Prices are in photo on our FB page and displayed on posters around the school. There is a display of what final product may look like in the office so please check it out. Check out your child's or children's amazing art work, they are displayed in the hall for all to see. If you would prefer to use your own picture or photo please use the school code KZ2339 and follow the instructions. Any questions please contact the PTA pta@stpatkai.schoo.nz. Uniform Next top up order due date is coming up on Friday 23rd September., This will be arrive roughly 2-3 weeks after ordering. We have had a few questions lately in regard to socks. A reminder that these are now navy crew length for summer for both boys and girls and Navy Knee highs for Winter. Please contact us at pta@stpatkai.school.nz with any questions. Chocolate Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who took part in this fundraiser, A reminder that all money was due back by Monday 12th. If you are yet to do so please could do this asap. Hot Chocolate Tuesdays Two more hot chocolate Tuesdays left for 2022! Wow that has gone fast!! Thank you so much to Susan Mullink and the very helpful children who have turned up every week to run this:) Family Mass Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Bake Sale and Morning tea at Family Mass. We love the generosity and giving nature of our community which enables us to then go on and support our wonderful Tamariki and School with the extra things such as Playgrounds, equipment and transport just to name a few things:) We hope you all have a fantastic end to your week. Before & After School Care @ St Patrick's School Quality Child Care Provider Since 2009 OurKidz NZ OSCAR has been operational since December 2009 We offer: Before school programme from 7am to 8.30am After school programme from 2.45pm to 6pm or 3pm to 6pm for surrounding school communities. Our holiday programmes operate from 7.30am to 5.30pm daily and an option for families who require a half-day session which ends at 3pm. OurKidz NZ OSCAR is a Ministry of Social Development (MSD) approved provider and undertake accreditation reviews every two years by a member of MSD Accreditation team. With this accreditation approval we can offer parents/caregivers the opportunity of applying for the OSCAR Subsidy from Work and Income. |
